CN-CFNBA Media Reform

Welcome to

CAMPAIGN NEIGHBORHOOD - CFNBA

Media Reform Page

Campaign Neighborhood - CFNBA has added “Media Reform” as part of its Smart Growth 5-Year Signature Plan (2005–2010).

We see media reform as one of the golden keys to “linkage” of the target audience we seek to empower. We see the present status of Milwaukeeans, especially People of Color and the Working Poor to be greatly disadvantaged by the lack of access and decision making opportunities.

We are working to saturate the airwaves with best practice programming in print, radio, television and broadband.

Our efforts include:

  • ‘’‘Journal Sentinel, Biz Journal and Small Business Times, not inclusive.
  • “Making Milwaukee”, An Outrage - Scant inclusion of People of Color
  • ‘’‘The Daily Reporter”, Official paper of the City of Milwaukee - How inclusive is that?
  • Linking Wireless Technology to Inner City Milwaukee (Creating Intelligent Technology Campuses with Milwaukee Public Library being the first line of linkage)

             National Focus

Free Press is a national organization that is a leader in Media Reform. The wise and committed leaders and staff host FCC hearings around the country to address the disparities of the “public airwaves and printed media”.

FCC Hearings

  • 2007 - Rainbow Coalition, Chicago, IL
  • 2006 - UW-M, Milwaukee, WI

Campaign Neighborhood - CFNBA became involved in 2006 during FREE PRESS national campaign across the USA to address the urgent issue of MEDIA REFORM holding FCC Hearings.

We participated in Milwaukee (2006) and Chicago (2007).

We also attended the fabulous (energizing) Annual Media Reform Conference in Memphis, TN in January, 2007.

CN-CFNBA SMART GROWTH INITIATIVE

Media Reform

A guiding principle of CN-CFNBA is “inclusiveness” of People of Color and the Working Poor on all levels of decision making for better/best quality of life and economic development opportunities.

We know through centuries of bad experiences that if the players are not all present, informed and discussing with governance, the game is rigged for their marginalizing.

We see this in our Public Airwaves where the conglomerates have a strangle-hold on access and the People are left with little to no access or control.

The norm for People of Color and the Working Poor is last one to know and to have access. They are often depicted in ways that promote numbing, stereotyping, untruths, misconcepts, alienation, exaggerations, overkill, and dysfunctionality.

It is critical that everytime we see an injustice on a local level and national level, we speak out. We join forces. We let the FCC/Federal Communication Commission and all our legislators know our concerns and outrages.

Recently, we added MPTV - Milwaukee Public Television Channel 10/36 and MATC/Milwaukee Area Technical College to our list to monitor, speak out about and to work to improve because of the documentary:
Making of Milwaukee.

Why the Airwaves Auction Matters

Shawn Chang and Timothy Karr, SavetheInternet.com

We can’t leave open access to wireless spectrum up to the whims of incumbents whose businesses were built as walled gardens.

The FCC needs to open all mobile networks, not just the C Block. And public support is needed for them to act.
